Santa Claus is coming to town, again. Winter season is one of my favourite times of the year. I like the snow and silent winter nights. Some time ago I was looking for some software or tools which allow you to make creatures and monsters. I wanted to create my own cool creature. I’ve put together a list of tools that you can use to make custom creatures and monsters.

#1 Spore Creature Creator

First of all there is Spore. Spore is a computer game (Windows) where you can build creatures with a simple, user-friendly creature editor. You can play with your creature and share creatures with the Spore Community.

In my opinion Spore is more for the younger audience. It’s a pretty cool game with the ability to build cute animal like creatures and you can move them around, dance, make tricks and more. There is a free demo of the creature creator of Spore which you may want to check out: Download it here.

#2 Creature Lab (FXRealm)

This 3D software program from FXRealm is a rendering tool with which you can combine different parts and put them all together to create your own cool monster or object. You can download the shareware version of this tool here. It looks pretty easy but I didn’t try this software, yet.

As you can see in the screenshot above this editor looks like a typical 3D Render Software. But since it is specially designed to make creatures it shouldn’t be too hard to learn it. Let me know if you have tried this tool, yet. With Creature Lab you will be able to make Aliens & Animals, too.

#3 Creature Creator Pro

With Creature Creator Pro you can make unique exotic, wild, weird creatures in no time at all. Every monster consists of a specific amount of body parts and you can arrange them as you like. They say that you don’t need to read any manuals in order to get started and to create your own monster.

You can define different creature attributes. Every body-part can be replaced by another. So it shouldn’t be hard to make yourself an individual crazy monster with this piece of software. You can find a demo version of this editor here. It’s cheap and I’m thinking of buying a license and make a little review of it. It got ratings like 7,5/10 from different 3D Magazines so I think it could be a good piece of software.

so what is Bryce 6?! It’s a free 3D landscape generating software and it’s one of the most user-friendly 3D landscape tools out there. Why? Because you can drag and drop objects, rotate and scale them simply pressing some buttons and that’s it. Bryce is intuitive and really fast in rendering scenes. If you are about to create fantastic landscapes on your computer you really should get the latest version of Bryce - it’s worth it (and only costs a few dollars).
